My Magic Tub and Tile Cleaner Recipe

Fresh Year, Fresh Bathroom!

It feels hard to believe that 2024 is sneaking up on us in a few days! In the spirit of fresh starts and clean slates, the bathroom deserves its own freshen up for the new year! I wanted to share my magic homemade tub and tile cleaner with you!

After putting away the holiday decorations, a deep cleaning always feels in order in my house. I know I can’t be alone in this! After trying a number of bathroom cleaners over the years, I found this recipe this past year and really love it! I’ve worked hard trying to swap all chemical laden cleaners out for more organic and natural solutions in our home. This is one that I keep coming back to over and over. As a bonus, it somehow makes cleaning the bathroom a little more enjoyable and I’m constantly amazed at how well it works! And anything that makes me enjoy cleaning more, I’m a fan of!

This little miracle cleaner breaks through soap scum, smells delicious and is a recipe you can make right at home with three simple ingredients. I’ve been really impressed with how powerful it is and how thoroughly it cleans! I found this recipe originally from One Essential Community and am so glad I did. I hope you enjoy it too!

Directions:

  1. Add 1/2 cup Sal Suds or Dawn Ultra Dish Soap to your glass bottle

  2. Add 1 1/2 cups of vinegar to the bottle. (Make sure you have a little room in the bottle left for the essential oils.)

  3. 25-30 drops of essential oil (I use 7 drops of lavender, 7 drops of sweet orange or lemon, 7 drops eucalyptus, 7 drops tea tree)

  4. Place spray top on the bottle and shake gently to mix well.

To clean:

  1. Shake bottle to mix all ingredients

  2. Spray on shower, tub, tile, faucet, glass shower doors

  3. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes. You can leave it on for a few hours if desired.

  4. Scrub (you may or may not need to, it is so powerful!)

  5. Rinse with hot water

  6. Enjoy your clean shower and delicious smelling bathroom!

The Magic Trio

This cleaner works so well because of the magic trio of ingredients. Vinegar has been used for years and years and is an excellent natural cleaner. Fighting molds, mildew, eliminating odors and cutting through grime, it is a tried and true base. Sal Suds or Ultra Dawn are both front runners when it comes to cutting through grease, dirt and soap scum. It also thickens the spray so that it clings to the walls. Essential oils not only leave your bathroom smelling divine, but have natural antibacterial and anti fungal properties - always good things to have in the bathroom! Combining these powerhouse ingredients creates magic!
